Mission
Through literacy and education programs, job and vocational training, health education and application assistance, Charterhouse Center for Families strives to reduce hunger, homelessness, school dropouts, and community violence throughout our diverse community. Charterhouse Center is committed to empowering families and improving their quality of life.
Since our very inception in 1986, Charterhouse Center for Families has been devoted to assisting those with the most need and educating the community to adapt to an ever changing world.
Though our early childhood literacy projects assisting low income parents in preparing their children for school, health insurance assistance program that help families stay out of the emergency room and become healthy, gang deterrent programs that educate parents to help stop the migration of children into gangs and assist those trying to start a new life away from gangs, and our jobs programs designed to assist those on welfare to develop skills that will enable them to sustain their families our vision is to end generational poverty.
Volunteer Opportunities
Charterhouse Center is seeking bilingual volunteers as teacher/mentor to teach basic computer skills and adult education. Other volunteer opportunities are needed to help administration, reception, marketing, fundraising, special events, artwork for reception /training room walls, children’s corner in waiting room, media, grant writing, and board members.Volunteers are also needed to help start an adult financial literacy mentor program and an afterschool tutor program.
