MISSION
Charterhouse Center for Families' mission is to assist individuals and families in their pursuit of self-sufficiency. Our programs are designed to further the achievements of the members of our community. Our vision is to provide personalized services for individuals and families to grow in self-sufficiency by collaborating with effective partnerships throughout San Joaquin County. HISTORY Charterhouse Center for Families began in 1986, in response to the needs of Southeast Asian refugee women. At that time there were no services available specifically for these women. Charterhouse Center for Families began services by first providing English-as-a-Second Language classes, shortly thereafter expanding to include outreach and advocacy services for all family members. As needs changed over the years, Charterhouse Center for Families has changed its programs to meet those needs. From 1986 to 1998, Charterhouse Center for Families provided comprehensive outreach, advocacy, health, and mental health, educational, vocational and employment services primarily to the refugee and immigrant population of San Joaquin County. In 1999, program services became available to any disadvantaged family or individual, regardless of race, sex or ethnicity. Charterhouse Center for Families has successfully completed more than a dozen contracts with San Joaquin County Human Services Agency. In addition to HSA and private support, Charterhouse Center for Families has received multi-year grants and contracts from other agencies and foundations to provide a wide variety of services. |
